John Scott

I co-directed this short film (with Mark Hesselink) as an accompaniment to artist John Scott receiving the Toronto Visual Arts Award (followed some years later by a Governor General’s Award).  John, who died in 2022, was a dear friend, a brilliant artist and ahead of his times in so many ways, including the uncategorizable manner in which he inhabited gender.  This film is a kind of thumbnail of who he was and the work he’d made up until ’95.  He continued to make powerful incisive work right up until his death.  He was represented by Nicholas Metivier.
